3 NYC-Based Nonprofits to Support This Giving Tuesday

As the holiday season approaches, it's not only the season of giving but also the perfect time to make a meaningful impact in your community.

At A Nanny Match, we're deeply committed to giving back to and uplifting our vibrant NYC community. As Giving Tuesday approaches, join us in celebrating three remarkable nonprofits in the Big Apple that tirelessly strive to make our city a better place for everyone.

This Giving Tuesday, which falls on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, consider donating to some outstanding New York City nonprofits that are dedicated to making the city a better place for all.

Join us in celebrating the spirit of generosity by learning more about these incredible organizations and how you can contribute to their missions.

1. Moms for Moms NYC

Moms for Moms’ mission is to empower single mothers by providing critical postpartum and newborn essentials to lessen the stress that comes with living in poverty.

Moms for Moms provides single mothers, living in abusive, homeless and low-income situations, with two care packages that include the critical supplies women need most after the birth of a child: a postpartum recovery kit for themselves and a newborn baby bundle for their child (ages 0-6 months).

Since 2014, Moms for Moms has provided single mothers in NYC with over $700,000 worth of goods, including, but not limited to:

  • 500,000+ diapers & wipes
  • 35,000+ infant onesies, pajamas, pants, jackets, socks and hats
  • 28,000+ newborn essentials: feeding supplies, blankets, safety kits, baby wash and lotion
  • 18,500+ postpartum recovery items including breast pads, nipple cream, and peri bottles

2. CASA-NYC

CASA plays a crucial role in assisting New York City's overburdened Family Court to meet the needs of the city's most vulnerable children.

Family Court Judges assign CASA-NYC to a case when they are concerned that a child is at risk of “falling through the cracks” because they are not getting their needs met while in foster care, at risk of languishing in foster care longer than necessary, or aging out of foster care without housing, an income, or services they need to live independently.

CASA-NYC's mission is to ensure that young people involved in the NYC child welfare system have their needs met and rights protected, and that children in foster care are moved quickly into safe, stable, nurturing and permanent homes – with their families of origin whenever possible.

CASA-NYC annually serves more than 1,000 of the nearly 10,000 children in foster care in the five boroughs of New York City.

3. WGIRLS NYC

Founded in 2007, by a group of young professional women in New York City,  WGIRLS INC  was created to meet the needs of underserved women and children in the local community.

Today through volunteerism & fundraising initiatives, WGIRLS Inc. is dedicated to “Empowering Women and Children” in the NYC community.

This holiday season they are sponsoring children from the Children of Promise NYC for their annual Hope for the Holidays Program. The Children of Promises’ mission is to embrace children of incarcerated parents & empower them to break the cycle of intergenerational involvement in the criminal justice system.

These deserving little ones are in need of educational toys and winter essentials to stay safe and warm this winter while having some fun, and there are two ways our community can make the holiday season a bit brighter for these children:

  1. You can sponsor a child for $35, which will provide 2 toys, a book, and a warm hat and glove set! Every $35 dollars sponsors one child so donations of any amount can be made by using the Classy Donation Page.

  2. You can select a gift from the WGIRLS NYC Amazon Wish List. Once you purchase, the WGIRLS will receive, wrap and hand-deliver the gifts straight from you.

WGIRLS also hosts Project G.L.A.M., an annual opportunity that provides economically underprivileged young women with prom dresses, makeup, and accessories to feel confident, proud, and beautiful at their senior prom. As the largest prom dress giveaway in the country, with over 7k gowns in stock, our goal is to ensure that every young woman in need across New York City has the opportunity to attend her senior prom.
